From traditional publishing to self-publishing – Bee Wisdom Book

The honeybee is my teacher, my healer, my counsellor…

To be honest, I don’t know if I would be alive today without her support during my health journey. She has been one of the determining factors in my recovery from a severe level of fibromyalgia.

It was during this pivotal winter of 2018/2019 that I reached the bottom of the illness wave and wrote my book, Bee Wisdom: Teachings from the Hive. Today, I am delighted to present its second edition, with various improvements to both content and layout.

This book is a crossroads, a meeting place between ecology, art, science, and philosophy. Its role is to bridge worlds. Much of the information relayed here is not found anywhere else today.

Each chapter begins with a personal story of something I experienced during my many years in the company of bees.

The text is punctuated with parts entitled The Voice of the Bee, wherein the collective intelligence of the bees presents her universe in a unique way.

Largely illustrated with 23 colour paintings and 53 pencil drawings, this book guides the reader on an increasingly intimate journey to the heart of the beehive, and to their own heart.

The preface is written by Jacqueline Freeman, author of the renowned bee book The Song of Increase.

Behind the Curtains of Publishing and Self-Publishing

I wrote this book in my mother tongue, French. The journey of translating and publishing it in English has been beautiful (thanks, Linnéa, for the amazing translation!) and full of challenges, especially given the state of physical weakness I found myself in.

The first edition was published by a small publishing house in the UK, and after Brexit, import taxes to Portugal, where I am based, became a nightmare, while communication with the publisher wasn’t always smooth.

So I decided to engage in self-publishing.

And this feels so self-empowering! Like reclaiming a part of myself.

But there is something that not many people know, and I thought it would be interesting for some of you.

When you buy my book through big online retailers (like Amazon for example), I earn, on average, €2 to €3 per copy. When you buy it through the self-publishing platform Lulu.com, I earn, on average, €10 to €14 per copy. The difference is impressive, isn’t it?

So, if you want to support me and my work, and you are interested in buying my book as a paperback, please use Lulu.com.

If you wish to purchase an eBook version, or a paperback within the EU, please order it directly from the Bee Wisdom website. And know that the audiobook version is available through most audiobook stores.

My book is also available in French, its original language, as well as in German.
